Abstract

It is noteworthy that these nurses are capable of providing General, Psychiatric, Community Health and Midwifery services and are thus making an important contribution to the provision of health care in Namibia
The findings indicate that these professional nurses/midwives have received the preparation to equip them to deliver a comprehensive health service and that the majority are acting in a profesionally acceptable manner. Shortcomings in competence are of such a nature that these can be readily rectified by means of orientation and in-service education programmes, and by consultation with the professional nurse/midwife on work placement wherever possible
