dc.description.abstract | The United Nations (UN) Peace Support Operations (PSOs) have evolved through the years, and have greatly increased in numbers and scope of their activities, which are large and complex. Namibia has been struggling in terms of mobilising appropriate human and material resources to undertake peace missions. Most of these problems are mainly caused by the lack of proper organisation, unpreparedness, lack of suitable equipment, low level of training as well as the international politics. These challenges need to be address if the country is to succeed in meeting its international obligations in respect of maintenance of international peace and security. The country lacks adequate capacity to participate in UN missions in terms of human resources both military and civilian personnel. The military force is not well equipped with appropriate modern materiel necessary for contemporary peace missions. The force does not have necessary systems in place to comply with UN procedures including the set timelines that are required for admission as a Troop Contributing Country (TCC) | en_US |
